Since retiring from teaching a couple of years ago, I am able to spend more time down south in the winter. This oil painting of an egret is the first of a series of paintings from this area.
What attracted me to this composition was it’s starkness. The white simplicity of the egret against the dark, complex reeds and brackish water that mirrors the stillness of this drama, of a bird waiting patiently for dinner to arrive.
This is also the first in a series of paintings from national parks. This painting is from Big Cypress National Preserve in Florida and was chosen for the Top 100 in the Arts For the Parks contest and will be in a traveling exhibit for 2005-2006.
