On a midwinter day with a heavy leaden sky, a desperate sun struggles to break free before being swallowed into night by the hungry horizon. The farm house and out buildings stretch out across the landscape of this long horizontal format and bask and glow in the warm hue of the late afternoon sky. This watercolor painting is the first to be reproduced in a long horizontal format that was very popular among European printmakers near the turn of the century.
A view from the Pray Road in Lisbon, NY.
