The sea never fails to fascinate me. No matter how many times I drive east there is that moment when the ocean first comes into view and I feel a bubble of excitement rise within me. Maybe it’s because it’s so large or that it can be as moody as we are, sometimes it can as peaceful as an afternoon nap or it can be as ugly and mad as a bad divorce.
There is also an infiniteness about the ocean that I both envy and admire, it is like a living deity that existed eons before us and will be here long after we are gone.
This is a study I did in acrylic of surf breaking on the backside of Monhegan on a fall afternoon.
