Sometimes I wonder if many, many years from now, someone will look at my paintings and what thoughts they might have about the artist and his work. In many ways Boldt Castle is like a painting. Using Heart Island as his canvas, stone as his medium and laborers as his brushes, George Boldt following a lifelong dream set out to create a masterpiece. But a twist of fate destroyed his inspiration and his unfinished work was abandoned, like an unfinished painting. Left in an eerie silence that is as cold and hard as its gray stone walls.
Reproduced from a watercolor painting.
