The idea for this painting was first conceived in the fall of 1980. It started with a reference photograph taken on the backside of Whiteface Mountain on a late October day. The lower half of the composition is close to the actual scene, but the upper half was created in the imagination of the artist. This painting became my first color limited edition print, released in the summer of 1982. In February of 1987, “October Morning” appeared on the cover of Readers Digest Magazine. The offset edition sold out in 1992. When I opened the last package of prints, I noticed that they were flawed so I never finished numbering all of them. In 2014 I began finishing the remaining numbers with giclee prints.
Watch for a segment on this web site coming soon, where I will discuss and show images of the planning and execution of this piece.
