There is something about the quality of light in the fall that seems to be more pure and brilliant than in other seasons. Maybe the air is cleaner with less moisture or perhaps the bright autumn colors filter the light giving it a warm glowing cast. Another idea is that we appreciate the sunny days more in the fall knowing that they are growing shorter and colder. Nothing in life is more cherished than that which is fading away from us. I saw this scene along the shore of Chippewa Bay, late in October. The composition was flooded with a golden backlight that was reflecting off the water illuminating the trees and foreground. Reproduced from an oil painting on canvas.
