It was a week before Christmas on a dark and sleeting, late afternoon day. Driving past the Ogdensburg Port I was surprised to see a freighter unloading, in this monochrome gray soup the ship’s silhouette
Was a magnificent sight. There was a kind of ghostly eeriness as I watched this river dinosaur with the only sound being that of frozen rain and snow pattering on the roof. It was the last ship of the season to visit the port for in just a few days the seaway system would be shut down for the winter.
Reproduced by giclee printing from a watercolor painting that was painted in 1982.
