Sometimes when I recall an image that I have painted, I am reminded how finite life is. As humans we trend to think of events as collective, always adding to the previous. But sometimes it can be more profound to consider the reverse and wonder how many are left. For example; how many more sunsets will I see? Or shooting stars. How many more four-leaf clovers will I find? Or any kind of life experiences. At first it may seem pessimistic to think that way but it’s really about NOW. Because now is the only place that exists and to embrace it will enrich your life. Yesterday is gone and tomorrow belongs to no one.
This oil painting commemorates a summer day spent with an artist friend. He arranged this celestial event to conclude our day. Seen from his island in the St. Lawrence River.
Reproduced by giclee printing.
