Those that spend much time on the river know that it has many moods. Some days the light can dance across the water creating a magical wonderland. On other days such as the one portrayed in this painting, the air is thick and becomes a misty shroud that mutes color turning the landscape surreal and dreamlike.
The pink colored rock seen in this painting and in much of the Thousand Island area is Precambrian gneiss, some of the oldest rock on earth dating back over one billion years.
Reproduced from an oil painting on canvas.
