Sometimes when I am writing these few paragraphs with the hope they will add some insight to the art work. I search the internet for a poem that I can quote a few lines from that will echo the feeling of the painting. When I looked for something about winter, all I found cold dark desolation frozen harsh wind from the north stuff. This painting isn’t about that. It’s about the beauty of winter, the jewel like crystal magic when nature transforms the landscape into a formal event with the theme being white.
I prefer the earlier snows, there is a freshness that offers a more intimate view of the land. Water is still open and the smaller objects haven’t been suppressed by the weight and length of winter.
Reproduced from a watercolor painting on cold press illustration board.
